Bimmian Xenon Interior Lighting (replacements)

A couple of my friends who own BMW's have been talking about their interior lighting mod available from www.bimmian.com . They'll send you a complete set of replacement bulbs for all of your interior lights. The before and after pictures are interesting and I think I'm going to give it a try...only problem is I have no idea what type of bulbs I need.

Bimmian will put together a custom kit for *no extra charge* as long as you supply them with the type and number of bulbs. Does anyone have an OEM repair manual that lists the interior bulbs? (everything from map lights to door pannels to dome lights to the licence plate lights)

I'd post some links, but their site works on flash or something like it and therefore won't link properly. I'd recommend you check them out though....go to www.bimmian.com and find the "Other" section from the home page title bar. From there find the "Q&A" icon and click (your mouse pointer will NOT switch to the clicky one, but the link works). There you can see their "no extra charge" quote.

Like I said, a couple of my E46-owning friends have gone ahead with this mod for their bimmers and it really looks very nice...something that's instantly noticable. They're also as far from "riced out" as one can get, so you'd be moving more towards the class, less towards the green neon underchassis lighting :D

Bulbs are usually listed in the owners' manual. I didn't find them in the repair manual -- just a warning to replace with the same wattage.

I swapped out most of my lights right after I bought my truck. The "puddle lamps" (the ones in the doors) are 168/194 bulbs as are the 2 map light bulbs. I also had new bulbs for the two dome lights (without rear audio system) but don't remember what size they are.

Let us know what you find out. I got the money for this mod now!

Thanks to jharris and tk...I'll look into the manual next time I'm out at my car (could be a week :D) and those suggestions to get started are very helpful, TK...thanks a lot!! Any idea how many you needed for the doors, etc?

Thanks again!!

wow, i'm really interested in this. in the manual, the bulbs are listed, but a lot of the bulb types are left blank. can someone help me out by posting the exact bulb types and wattage?

I wonder if they would be interested in giving us a group buy?

You need one 168/194 bulb for each door (a total of 4 for the doors.) You'll also need one for each side of the maplights (2 total) if you choose to put them there. The dome lights (mounted in the center and rear of the roof) are the long type, like the one sticking up out of the box in your first post and are one to each (2 total if you don't have the rear audio system, I'm not sure about the lights for the rear audio system.)

What about lights for the running boards?

darktiger 04-13-2004 12:45 PM

I would be interested in this mod.

Thanks to JGrimball and tkr128, we've got a good list of lights going:

4-doors (bulb: 168/194)
2-map lights (bulb: 168/194)
2-dome light
1- back dome light

4- running boards (optional)
2- license plate

Still need a number for the vanity mirror (for those little girls that have them) and the glove box lights. Also, has anyone noticed if their footwells are lit?

As an extra note, I had a chance to sit inside a new 325ci with this mod done and it was really something impressive. The pictures don't do it justice at all. It's very much the same idea as when you first put in the superwhite headlamps....

more thanks to yabedude...I checked out some of those part numbers on the web and they seem to be the generic bulb type as opposed to PIAA specific!

So here's the list as it stands now:

4 - doors (bulb: 168/194)
2 - map lights (bulb: 168/194)
3 - dome light (DE3175)
4 - running boards (optional) (DE3021 or 194 -- listed as step/courtesy light? not sure if it's the same thing)
2 - license plate (168)
1 (2?) - glove box lamp (37)

I'll wait to see if anyone has anymore input (a day or so--drop a post by the afternoon of Thursday, 15 April) before I contact Bimmian.com -- I'll be sure to update all intersted parties via this forum when I get some word back.

are these the Industry std part codes?
or are they specific part codes for a 3rd party seller?
or toyota specific part codes?

i figured out the 9005/6 are ISO codes, but the rest im not sure.

Goose 04-14-2004 01:45 PM

I'm pretty sure they're industry standard....I did a search on the dome lights and they came back from several manufacturers...
