Bimmian Xenon Interior Lighting (replacements)

A couple of my friends who own BMW's have been talking about their interior lighting mod available from www.bimmian.com . They'll send you a complete set of replacement bulbs for all of your interior lights. The before and after pictures are interesting and I think I'm going to give it a try...only problem is I have no idea what type of bulbs I need.

Bimmian will put together a custom kit for *no extra charge* as long as you supply them with the type and number of bulbs. Does anyone have an OEM repair manual that lists the interior bulbs? (everything from map lights to door pannels to dome lights to the licence plate lights)

I'd post some links, but their site works on flash or something like it and therefore won't link properly. I'd recommend you check them out though....go to www.bimmian.com and find the "Other" section from the home page title bar. From there find the "Q&A" icon and click (your mouse pointer will NOT switch to the clicky one, but the link works). There you can see their "no extra charge" quote.

Like I said, a couple of my E46-owning friends have gone ahead with this mod for their bimmers and it really looks very nice...something that's instantly noticable. They're also as far from "riced out" as one can get, so you'd be moving more towards the class, less towards the green neon underchassis lighting :D

Bulbs are usually listed in the owners' manual. I didn't find them in the repair manual -- just a warning to replace with the same wattage.

tkr128 04-12-2004 10:07 PM

I swapped out most of my lights right after I bought my truck. The "puddle lamps" (the ones in the doors) are 168/194 bulbs as are the 2 map light bulbs. I also had new bulbs for the two dome lights (without rear audio system) but don't remember what size they are.

JGRIMBALL 04-12-2004 10:11 PM

Let us know what you find out. I got the money for this mod now!

Goose 04-12-2004 11:34 PM

Thanks to jharris and tk...I'll look into the manual next time I'm out at my car (could be a week :D) and those suggestions to get started are very helpful, TK...thanks a lot!! Any idea how many you needed for the doors, etc?

Thanks again!!

TranceKrayz 04-12-2004 11:41 PM

wow, i'm really interested in this. in the manual, the bulbs are listed, but a lot of the bulb types are left blank. can someone help me out by posting the exact bulb types and wattage?

momo.75 04-13-2004 12:09 AM

I wonder if they would be interested in giving us a group buy?

You need one 168/194 bulb for each door (a total of 4 for the doors.) You'll also need one for each side of the maplights (2 total) if you choose to put them there. The dome lights (mounted in the center and rear of the roof) are the long type, like the one sticking up out of the box in your first post and are one to each (2 total if you don't have the rear audio system, I'm not sure about the lights for the rear audio system.)

JGRIMBALL 04-13-2004 09:40 AM

What about lights for the running boards?

darktiger 04-13-2004 12:45 PM

I would be interested in this mod.

Goose 04-13-2004 11:08 PM

Thanks to JGrimball and tkr128, we've got a good list of lights going:

4-doors (bulb: 168/194)
2-map lights (bulb: 168/194)
2-dome light
1- back dome light

4- running boards (optional)
2- license plate

Still need a number for the vanity mirror (for those little girls that have them) and the glove box lights. Also, has anyone noticed if their footwells are lit?

As an extra note, I had a chance to sit inside a new 325ci with this mod done and it was really something impressive. The pictures don't do it justice at all. It's very much the same idea as when you first put in the superwhite headlamps....

yabedude 04-14-2004 11:35 AM

I don't remember where I found this, but mayeb it will help. It may be Sylvania bulbs:

Replacement lights:

Low beam headlamp Part number = 9006 (55w 6000k)
High beam headlamp Part number = 9005 (65w 6000k)
Fog/Driving light Part number = 9006 (55w 6000k)
Parking light Part number = 168
Front turn signal Part number = 4157NALL
Tail light Part number = 7443
Stop light Part number = 7443
High mount stop light Part number = 921
License plate Part number = 168
Back up light Part number = 921
Front sidemarker Part number = 168
Rear sidemarker Part number = 7443
Glove box Part number = 37
Map light Part number = 168
Dome light Part number = DE3175
Step/Courtesy light Part number = DE3021 or 194
Trunk/Cargo area Part number = DE3175
Daytime running lights Part number = 4157NALL

Goose 04-14-2004 12:54 PM

more thanks to yabedude...I checked out some of those part numbers on the web and they seem to be the generic bulb type as opposed to PIAA specific!

So here's the list as it stands now:

4 - doors (bulb: 168/194)
2 - map lights (bulb: 168/194)
3 - dome light (DE3175)
4 - running boards (optional) (DE3021 or 194 -- listed as step/courtesy light? not sure if it's the same thing)
2 - license plate (168)
1 (2?) - glove box lamp (37)

I'll wait to see if anyone has anymore input (a day or so--drop a post by the afternoon of Thursday, 15 April) before I contact Bimmian.com -- I'll be sure to update all intersted parties via this forum when I get some word back.

NoDak 04-14-2004 12:56 PM

are these the Industry std part codes?
or are they specific part codes for a 3rd party seller?
or toyota specific part codes?

i figured out the 9005/6 are ISO codes, but the rest im not sure.

Goose 04-14-2004 01:45 PM

I'm pretty sure they're industry standard....I did a search on the dome lights and they came back from several manufacturers...

Hello. I am new to this, but I've been getting great advice on this site just from reading various threads. I must admit, though, that interior xenon lights, by far, is the best mod I've heard of. I was wondering what the price range is for getting all the factory bulbs replaced? I have a black '03 SE 4X4, and if someone could show me how to put a profile signature on my replies, I'd be much obliged. Thanks. This site rocks!!!

Livo 04-14-2004 04:18 PM

I would be interested in one of those kits also

Hey man,

It's not hard to get a sig...if you look at the blue buttons above the links to the various pages (example: Toyota-4Runner.org Forum>Accessories>Bimmian Xenon Interior Lighting) you'll see "user cp" "register" "calendar" "members" etc. You want "user cp" for User Control Pannel. From there it's no problem...scroll down until you see the box where you can enter a profile that will appear every time. If you want to add web links and such, just use the formating that the site will automatically add for you from the reply menu. I hope this helps!

As for the lights, I've got to collect a complete list since I don't know myself, but the members have been very helpful. Unless there are any new developments, I'll email Bimmian tomorrow and get a price, which I will post asap!

When you contact them, see if they will give us a break for a certain number of orders?

Thanks for the help Goose. I kinda figured it out once I played around with it.

Goose 04-16-2004 02:38 PM

Well I've got the response and I'm gonna send him the info....who wants a set????

Hi Erik,
Yes we can accomodate an order like this if you provide the bulb information. We will not accept any returns or warranty on these bulbs for obvious reasons. Send me a list of the bulbs you need and however many potential buyers you have and I will give you a quote.
We look forward to seeing your order soon,
Thanks - Aaron
Bimmian Sales Department

JGRIMBALL 04-16-2004 02:40 PM

I want a set, but I need the running board lights also.

momo.75 04-16-2004 02:44 PM

I'm interested. Did he give you an estimate on the price, nothing firm gust more of a guesstimate?

sharp4runr 04-16-2004 02:47 PM

What comes in this set of replacement lights? I'll probably be interested if it is less than $100

MAC4Runner 04-16-2004 03:33 PM

Assuming the price quote comes back reasonable, I'm interested as well.............

Localmotion 04-16-2004 03:50 PM

I am interested as well. I have a 1996 SR5 however. I think they use the same bulbs though. anybody know?

partsrep 04-16-2004 07:17 PM

Count me in if it's reasonable.

T4R04LTD 04-16-2004 09:11 PM

I'm interested in these lights. Count me in too. Cool

Here's a picture of the bulbs in my doors. Just for comparison, I put the "stock" bulb back into the dome light. The lighting isn't very good since I was taking the picture in the dark. In person, they are not blue but a bright white light. I picked these bulbs up for $7 a pair.

live4swell 04-16-2004 10:20 PM

I will get a set too if they are reasonable

ricedo 04-16-2004 11:05 PM

I'd like a set as well, and like the rest of us, if they are reasonably priced.

TranceKrayz 04-17-2004 12:07 AM

i would also like a set, but i need to know which lights are being replaced in this set.

rsp685 04-17-2004 05:10 PM

tkr128 Where did you get your bulbs. They look nice!

tkr128 04-17-2004 11:40 PM

rsp685,

I got the bulbs locally, but here's a site that sells the ones I have.

Autodynamic.com The ones I have are the 3rd ones down the page. I've tried a couple of bulbs out and so far, these have been the brightest.

i agree, polarg bulbs are one of the best bulbs you can get. they have a really nice color and they are bright.

darktiger 04-19-2004 01:58 PM

What's the status of the Bimmian Xenon Interior Lighting bulbs?????

Goose 04-19-2004 02:52 PM

Update

Here's the update:

I've emailed Aaron at Bimmian and am waiting for his reply with a cost quote that depends on the number of responses I got for the mod (10 from this forum) as well as the number of bulbs. The final list I sent him is as follows:

4 - doors (bulb: 168/194)
2 - map lights (bulb: 168/194)
3 - dome light (bulb: DE3175)
4 - step/courtesy (bulb: DE3021 or 194)
2 - license plate (bulb: 168)
2 - glove box lamp (bulb: 37)

Any mistakes? Also, does anyone know what the "parking lamp" is? Is that an interior or exterior light? I have no f-in' clue! I'll make sure he adds that if it seems appropriate though.

Thanks

yabedude 04-19-2004 03:06 PM

I'm interested but am in Canada and will not do a UPS delivery as they charge a ridiculous brokerage fee which costs more than the bulbs locally. I would be more than willing to pay for regular mail, but the sender has to do a bit of leg work and some are not willing to do that.

How would we pay? Check or credit card? I'm not clear on wheather a bulk purchase means we pay the seller individually or pay one forum member who then does the bulk purchase.

I'd be interested in this:

2 map lights (bulb: 168/194)
2 dome light (bulb: DE3175)

2 dome lights ... one for overhead, one for the Trunk/Cargo area.
