Urgent Please Help: Bumper Issue for my 03 Sport Edition

Hi all,
I recently had a minor accident with my 2003 Sport Edition and the right rear piece of the bumper was damaged. (For those who don't know, the rear bumper is actually 3 pieces connected together.)

So I ordered the right rear bumper piece from Mechanicsville Toyota in VA and specified that the bumper should have a grey plastic finish because in 2003, all the SE (and SR5) did not come with color keyed bumper and cladding. The person verified my VIN# and sent the part out.

I got the part, but as I opened the box, the bumper has black plastic finish that needs to be prepped and painted. I called Mechanicsville back and the person verified that it is indeed the "correct" piece. He even looked at other bumpers specified for SR5 in their inventory and told me that they all look the same with the black plastic finish.

This is the part number of what they sent me:
52152-35900

My questions for you 4Runner experts are:

1) Is that the right part??

2) If it's not, anyone knows the correct part number?

3) If it is indeed the right part, is the grey finish something that needs to be "painted on" by a body shop?

I am confused..... Please help. Thanks!! :(

I would say it is the wrong part. The unpainted cladding was just that, unpainted cladding. The part you need, you should be able to pull out of the box and put directly on your truck with no finishing.

I would go to the parts counter myself and work out the right part number with them and then bring the correct part number bact to the service rep.

You probably got a bumper part from a later model year when all the cladding was the same color as the car. From what I have seen, the '03 cladding is made from a grey plastic material that would not need painting,

This is what I told the guy. I told him that the later models have color keyed bumper, but mine is 2003 that it should be unpainted and the whole piece is just molded with the grey plastic. I even attached pictures of my car to show him how it is supposed to look like.

But his system keeps giving him the part number that belongs to a black bumper that needs to be prepped and finish. I want to say that his system is wrong, but if I can't provide him with the correct part number, he wouldn't be able to verify if his system is wrong. And I would be stuck with the wrong part.

Go to partznet.com, get their toll free phone number and call them for the part. They are a Toyota dealer and are pretty knowlegable and have great prices. It is like getting a second opinion. I know that is not the right part and that the right part IS out there.

Thanks a lot for the link. I called and they did provide me with a different part number:

52152-35120

Instead of the 52152-35900 that Mechanicsville gave me. I called up Mechanicsville and told them about the different part number. They need to order the part and it should arrive tomorrow. Then they would take a picture and email me to make sure if it is correct.

I will keep you all updated. Thanks!
