4runner frame recall...

First off, this is my first post on this forum and hopefully many more to go. I am an independent car dealer in Ohio which only specializes in Toyota and Lexus.I am able to get wholesale oem parts cheap and have a subscription to TIS through my local Toyota dealer. Hopefully, I can meet some new people on here to share and gather useful Toyota knowledge.

My current winter vehicle is my beloved 97 4runner. I've done alot to it, cup holder mod, bushwhacker flares, door cladding, complete limited interior overhaul, lighted sunroof switch, tundra front brakes, diff breather mod, scion oem radio, just to name a few. Now my question is about the frame.. My Tacoma and tundra have both been recalled. My Tacoma was bought back and my Tundra frame was replaced. My local dealer tells that the 4runner will not be recalled and neither will my wife's sequoia. This was 5 months ago. Today, I get a letter in the mail stating that there's a recall for the sequoia. That will get fixed now how about my 4runner? There is numerous soft spots and perforation all over the frame. I can literally pull chunks of rust out from the inside of my frame.

I hear mixed reviews from people saying that 4runners will get a recall and others say no. Has anybody heard anything on the third gen 4runners? Toyota dealers are not allowed to say anything until an actual recall comes out. I filed a complaint with the nhtsb but I never had good luck with a follow up. Any input from other members on here? Thanks

The only thing I will point out here is that the Sequoia, Tundra, and Tacoma are all USA built vehicles, where the 4Runner and Land Cruiser are not. I don't think there are near the number of issues with the 4Runner and Land Cruiser as there were with the USA truck counter parts. I could be wrong as I've never cared enough to do any real research since I'm lucky enough to have truck that came from Southern California and still shows zero signs any frame rust.

Good luck with your 4Runner and welcome to the site.

All of the frame recalls to date have been on vehicles that are built here, with frames supplied by Dana Holding Corp.

Since the 4Runner has always been built in Japan, with frames built by Toyota, I would be very surprised to see a frame recall for the 4Runner.

As stated above the Landcruiser, and FJcruiser are also built in Japan.
